Finding Valuable Minerals
There is a three step process that mining companies use to find ore body's. Ore body's release a magnetic field that can be detected by a
machine called a magnetometer. Firstly, mining companies send plane to fly over certain areas with a magnetometer to detect where rare
minerals can be found. Secondly, all the information is sent to a GIS and is analyzed and presented. Finally, mining companies discover most
of they're data by going to the actual mining spot and digging. The decision of to open a mine in a spot or to not is very complicated. This is
because they need to know if they will profit from the dig. It cost a lot of money to set up a mine and start to dig and if they spend a million
dollars digging a big hole and end up finding nothing, then that’s a big problem.
